ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The No. 2 ranked Lincoln Memorial University men's golf team shattered program records Tuesday afternoon at the Spring Kickoff Intercollegiate, recording the lowest versus-par score, shooting 27-under, and also tied the lowest total score of 837. The Railsplitters claimed their first victory of the spring championship season, and the first team win since February 2020.
AT A GLIMPSE:
LMU (275-279-283) set the lowest versus-par score in program history at 27-under, besting last October's outing, in which the Railsplitters carded a 20-under in the University of North Georgia Fall Invitational. LMU's performance this week in St. Augustine marks the lowest 54-hole total score on a par 72 course in program history.
837 also tied the lowest total score in program history, equaling the 2019-20 squad's score at the Queens Invitational. That tournament was contested on a par 71 course, while this week's event was contested at the St. Johns Golf Club's par 72 course.
Railsplitter head coach,
Travis Muncy, collects his 41st career victory since his LMU reign began in 2004.
"I'm so proud of the way the guys approached this week after not competing for so long, they really overcame a ton of adversity. We got off to a great start this week with
Harry Lord setting the pace, and he was backed up by the other four," Muncy said. "The biggest key to our success this week was having all five guys in the game playing well every round. Our freshman Cade and Jantai came up big, joining Dan, Luke and Harry."
All five Railsplitters representing LMU finished in the top-15 of the individual standings, but veteran experience proved key in the second and third rounds of the tournament.
Dan Bradbury led the way through the second round finishing six-under, and
Luke Harries inspired the Railsplitters in the final round, finishing four-under. The pair of seniors featured on the Spring Kickoff Intercollegiate All-Tournament team.
AROUND THE COURSE:
Of the seven ranked programs in this year's Spring Kickoff Intercollegiate, No. 9 West Florida joined LMU as the only teams to finish under par. The Argonauts finished 14-under, as the Railsplitters margin of victory stood at 13 strokes.
North Greenville's Austin Duncan finished atop the individual standings, notching a 13-under par performance (66-70-67).
FOR THE RAILSPLITTERS:
No. 1 nationally ranked senior,
Dan Bradbury (71-66-71), placed third on the individual leader board after recording a team-high second round score of six-under. The Englishman carded six birdies and an eagle in the second round, and capped off this week's event with four birdies in the final round of action. Bradbury featured on the all-tournament team in St. Augustine.
Senior
Luke Harries (69-72-68) finished fifth and was named to the all-tournament team after impressive first and third round efforts. Harries fired in two of the four eagles for the Railsplitters in the Spring Kickoff Intercollegiate, including his second in the last round on hole 16's par 5. The Welshman finished seven-under par.
Cade Preston (70-70-73) notched his first-career collegiate top-10 finish for the Railsplitters this week, placing ninth at three-under. Preston recorded 11 birdies on the week through 54 holes.
Freshman
